How Texas A&M Counseling Kept Serving Students Through a Building Emergency
Texas A&M University
When a fire closed their building, Texas A&M's counseling center moved intake to telehealth overnight and switched back the next day using Point and Click.
When a building emergency forced Texas A&M Counseling and Mental Health Care (CMHC) to shift operations overnight, their team relied on Point and Click's flexibility to keep serving students without interruption.
A fire broke out in the building housing CMHC. Thankfully, no one was injured, and the offices themselves were not damaged. Repairs to the lower floors meant staff had to work remotely for a day, with no clear timeline at first for when they'd be able to return.
How the shift happened
Two Point and Click features made that shift possible. Appointment Presence let the team use a single visit type and flex it between in-person and televisit, rather than managing separate visit types for each format. Because CMHC uses an open provider scheduling template that lets students self-book either an on-site or telehealth intake session, the team simply adjusted the intake visit's Presence through Appointment Built-In Pages. That removed on-site as an option, and clients were notified that their visit format had changed.
The team also had direct control over the branching and options available on their portal, so they could adjust what clients saw and could select without waiting on outside support. According to James Deegear, Associate Director of Clinical Services, that control over both visit types and portal options is what let CMHC move as fast as it did.
"With the increased control features PnC has provided for managing visit types and what is available on the portal... we were able to pivot our services and access to our services very quickly. And to then quickly flip everything back to normal for returning to the building today."
Back to normal, just as fast
By the next day, repairs had progressed enough for the team to return to their offices, and they switched operations back with the same speed.
Please extend our gratitude to PnC for a system that really serves us well so that we serve our students well.
